Effective January 1, 2004, Planning for Canada is required to comply with federal privacy legislation entitled the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Planning for Canada (“PfC”) operates www.planningforcanada.ca and www.planifierpourlecanada.ca and places a high priority on protecting your privacy. It is PfC’s policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our website(s). This privacy policy was created in order to demonstrate PfC’s firm commitment to the privacy of our clients and website users. This policy explains what types of information is collected by the PfC’s website(s), www.planningforcanada.ca and www.planifierpourlecanada.ca and how this information is used.

Website Visitors

Like most website operators, PfC collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. PfC’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how PfC’s visitors use its website. From time to time, PfC may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing a report on trends in the usage of its website.

PfC also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users. PfC only discloses logged in user and IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to PfC’s website choose to interact with PfC in ways that require PfC to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that PfC gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. Those who engage in transactions with PfC are asked to provide additional information, including as necessary the personal information required to process those transactions. In each case, PfC collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with  PfC. PfC does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. And visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

The potentially personally-identifying  and personal-identifying information that PfC collects will be used to determine which pre-arrival services are most suited for a client’s situation and to validate a client’s eligibility, with the Government of Canada, to receive pre-arrival services. We encourage visitors and clients to read IRCC’s booklet titled Gathering Information, which provides additional details on the collection, storage and management of client personal-identifying information.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

PfC discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to those of its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on  PfC’s behalf or to provide services available at  PfC’s website, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others.  PfC’s will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone. Other than to its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, PfC discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when PfC believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of  PfC, third parties or the public at large. PfC takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.
